The Southwest Orlando Jaycees and the City of Orlando's Mayor Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission proudly presents the Annual MLK Holiday Parade. The Parade will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2012 starting promptly at 10:00 am.
The theme "Remember, Celebrate, Act…A Mission Still To Fulfill" reminds us of the many marches for freedom, the bitter struggles and the selfless service to each other that was and is still needed to help us triumph over poverty, racism, war and violence. This is a day of interracial and intercultural sharing and cooperation and is not limited to any one ethnicity, but is extended to include equality and justice for all mankind. The late Coretta Scott King wrote: “Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is not only for celebration and remembrance, education, and tribute, but above all a day of service.” All across Orlando, volunteers will be feeding the hungry, rehabilitate housing, tutoring those who can’t read, mentoring at-risk teens, consoling the broken-hearted and thousands of other projects for building our community…this is living the dream.
As a way to improve the quality of the annual MLK Parade located in downtown Orlando, the city beautiful, the Southwest Orlando Jaycees is encouraging more floats. By doing this, we are keeping the legacy and celebrating the life in which Dr. King lived. As a result, the best float will be awarded $500. It will be judged in accordance with the theme in the area of originality, personality, most creative, and most colorful. Together, we can make this the best and most memorable parade. The deadline to register is December 31, 2011. In order, to fairly serve each friend registering for the parade, we honor the parade lineup by the date you register, so please register early.
